WOODTHORPE brother-and- sister Ryan and Chloe Buck, pictured left, both made a splash for Yorkshire and Humberside at the UK School Games.

Ryan, 16, shaved six seconds off his 1,500 metres steeplechase personal best in Cardiff on his way to a fifth-place finish in the final, while 12-year-old Chloe, the youngest competitor in her events, won two bronze medals in the disability swimming 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke at neighbouring Swansea.

For Manor School pupil Chloe, 2009 has been a medal-laden year.

In March, she came back from the National Junior Championships with one gold, four silver and two bronze.

The York City Baths Club ace, who was born ten weeks premature and without a left forearm, is also a member of the World Class Pathway Talent Programme and is expected to represent her country at London’s 2012 Paralympic Games.

All Saints’ sixth-former Ryan runs for City of York and recently won a bronze medal at the Northern Inter-Counties Championships.

He is also part of Yorkshire and Humberside’s regional development talent squad.
