A TEAM of cyclists from York and North Yorkshire was pedalling 100 miles today from Scunthorpe to York to raise funds for cancer research.
The team of staff from North Yorkshire Sport, which helps deliver and invest in sporting structures and programmes across the county, decided to cycle the route taken on stage one of the Tour of Britain last weekend.
One of the team, Paul Downes, 32, from Heworth, York, said they wanted to raise funds for the GODD Fund (Gastro-Oesophageal Diseases and Disorders), a newly formed charity funding the diagnosis and treatment of oesophageal cancer, and SportsAid.
“I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us so far. This has really spurred me and the rest of the team on to train even when it’s been bad weather,”he said.
“We have raised about £900 already, but we have a target of £1,000.”
