ONE of York’s most well-known nightspots has changed its name, and now hosts some of the best underground club nights in the city.
Hub, in Micklegate, is the new name for Ziggy's, and is now the home of several of the city’s established club nights, including Freakin’ and Hijacked.
Having formerly resided at Thomas’s, Hijacked re-launches next Friday (September 25) at Hub, featuring guest DJs Slyde, plus residents Dave Budgen, Andy Kidd and Dust, who’ll all be spinning the wheels of steel from 10pm until 3am.
Slyde have been gracing the breaks scene with their unique style of layered beats since 2002, and their last four singles, released under Finger Lickin’ Records, have sold more than 15,000 copies. The duo has performed internationally since its inception and, after a chance introduction to Keith Flint of The Prodigy, the trio collaborated on Clever Brains Fryin’.
Today, Slyde’s conception of break beats has resulted in an album, called Everyone’s Entitled To Our Own Opinion, which both reflects their core influences and origins and strikes with a sophisticated depth of sound, crossing breaks with melodic tunes and commercial awareness.
Entry is £5.
