Heworth ARLC Under-10s started their season with a 38-4 victory over Garforth Tigers.

Man-of-the-match Keiran Costanzo’s tackling display was the backbone of a fine team defensive effort, and debutant Harry Shepperd capped a fine all-round display with a try, and Henri Grimbley returned after four months out to be named man of steel.

Leon Beattie (2), Sam Young, Shay North, Josh Rogerson and Arron Mcbride all scored fine tries, Young, North and Shepperd adding goals.

New Earswick U10s had a tough season opener away to victors Featherstone Lions.

All Blacks battled well with Matthew Williams, Ewan Coverdale, Daniel Watson and Harry Suter tackling and driving hard, while Jimmy Piggott scored their only try. The men of the match were Harvey Baynes and Adam Winter Rhodes, while most improved was Matthew Williams and the ‘team player’ award went to Daniel Watson.

New Earswick U9s lost 12 tries to six against Shaw Cross.

All Blacks trailed only 7-6 at half-time, with tries by Tyler Ashfield (3), Finlay Osborne (2) and Iain Oakley, on the back of strong running from Jacob Naismith, Joe Davison, Charlie Archer and George Starkey.

In the second half, man-of-the-match Starkey, Davison, Oakley and Osborne, who took the ‘outstanding team contribution’ award went close. Debutant William Young was the opposition’s choice of man-of-the-match.

New Earswick U8s lost 8-2 to Oulton Raiders in their season opener. Tries came from ‘rising star’ award-winner Joshua Kelly and Kian Oliver, the opposition’s choice of man of the match. Ellie powell was top tackler and Charlie Precious the man of the match.
