A HOST of aspiring young footballers have been put through their paces during York Schoolboys selection trials.

Throughout the week, York College has played host to trials at Under-12s, U13s, U14s and U15s level, with the right to represent the city up for grabs.

The U14s sessions were held on Monday, with the U15s on Tuesday, the U13s on Wednesday and the U12s yesterday.

Coaches praised the high standard of football played across the age groups, which bodes well for success this season.

Three of the squads are printed below, while the U12s squad will be published in The Press on Monday.

The U13s squad will be finalised after phase two of their trials at York College next Wednesday, at 5pm. The 29 boys named below have progressed to the next stage.

Meanwhile, the U11s continued their fine start to the season when they toppled York Mitchell Sports League U12s winners Rawcliffe 2-1 in a friendly.

Captain Matthew Roberts put U11s in front from 35 yards and George Brown made it 2-0 when he rounded the ’keeper.

Rawcliffe responded late in the game with a shot that sailed over the head of York ’keeper Dan Miller.
