An honorary doctor of music at the University of Wolverhampton, Beverley Knight MBE is one of the greatest British gospel and R’n’B artists of all time.
Yet, despite respectable UK sales, a cabinet full of awards and an incessant touring schedule, Knight’s mainstream profile still does not touch potential or talent.
To combat this injustice, Knight has enlisted the support of Janet Jackson’s former producers Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam to give 100% an international funky backbone, and Chaka Khan joins forces on the spirited workout Soul Survivor.
Guy Chambers is on board yet again, while Amanda Ghost supplies the lead single Beautiful Night.
More familiar, the Bee Gee’s classic Too Much Heaven is infused with the Gospel spirit absent from the original.
A fine album and certainly on a par with recent sets by former members of Destiny’s Child, or indeed Miss Jackson.
