THE trouble with putting out one record every three years is that everyone quickly forgets about you. So it is with Jet.
Are You Going To Be My Girl, the frenzied hit with the killer riff that adorned an iPod commercial, seems a long time ago. Six years, to be precise.
Jet seemed fresh and edgy then. Shaka Rock, by comparison, is like rock’n’roll by numbers. It’s serviceable enough. She’s A Genius is a stomper, built on that barnstorming guitar, and Black Hearts has a divine bass line, but Shaka Rock mostly trundles along. It lacks the wow factor debut record Get Born had in abundance.
Three years from now, we’re likely to be asking: Jet who?
