LIZ EDGE may like to call me a NIMBY, but this is something she could also be said to be with regard to buses and cycles, as seen by her comments over many years (Readers’ Letters, September 11).

As someone who cycles on average 30 to 50 miles a week around this city and a cyclist here since the age of seven, I think I am a good judge of which roads are dangerous to cyclists and which are not, hence my views on Beckfield Lane.

Off-road cycle paths are ideal where there are few hazards in the cyclists’ way, but they are not suitable where there are multiple driveway crossings and will lead to accidents.

Also, Coun Horton and I do want more help for cyclists in the ward, but we want it on the roads such as Boroughbridge Road and Carr Lane.

We also support help for cyclists and pedestrians across the city, including schemes for Blossom Street and Fishergate.
