A HOME hunter could soon be residing in “one of the finest houses in the region” complete with 200 acres of grassland – if he or she has £6 million.

Would-be buyers are already interested in buying the 18th century Sheriff Hutton Park.

Meanwhile another house with a view, but with scope for development, has sold for £180,000, £30,000 more than it was expected to fetch.

Whitegate Bungalow, a semi-derelict shack near Scarborough was predicted to go for £150,000 when it came under the hammer recently, but potential buyers, charmed by the two acres of land, national park location and stunning views of the Yorkshire coastline, sent the price soaring.

Sheriff Hutton Park is a Grade I-listed mansion which comes with a separate farmhouse and cottage. Tim Blenkin, of estate agents Blenkin & Co, said: “This is not a “footballer’s house.

“I would think any buyer would be a hugely successful businessman who has built up a company and maybe sold it.

“It’s one of the best houses in North Yorkshire. It has 200 acres of parkland and is only 20 minutes from York.”

Mr Blenkin said there was interest in the property and he was expecting an offer on the 18th century house in the near future.

Tom Watson, who handled the sale of Whitegate Bungalow for Cundalls estate agents and auctioneers on Wednesday, said: “We are delighted with the price.

“It was a particularly hard one to value but the best way to do that is to see what people want to pay for it.

“The auction started slowly but then it got tense and we were going up in £10,000 increments.

“There was a lot of interest and it’s nice that it’s gone to someone from the Scarborough area.”

The bungalow, which was last on the market 70 years ago, came with running water and electricity, but was, according to the sale brochure, “requiring full refurbishment or redevelopment.”

“I don’t think we will ever get anything like that again,” said Mr Watson.
