POPPLETON 2 won promotion to division one of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League after a thrilling last game with rivals Castlegarth.
Castlegarth beat relegated Wheldrake 72-36 to set up a division two promotion decider with Poppleton in the final week of the campaign.
The Wetherby side needed to beat Poppleton by a 20-game margin to overtake them, but the game ended in a draw. In division six, Cliffe needed a point in their final game at home to struggling Escrick to overhaul Civil Service 2 and win promotion to division five.
However, Cliffe lost the first round 20-16 and went on to lose the match 56-52 and they finished third, behind Civil Service on games won.
