AUTHOR John Cunliffe, creator of Postman Pat, reads to Clifton Green primary school pupils, from left, Grace Hobson, Jessica Taylor, Owen Sandles, Jack Reagan-Wallis and Alice Tuffen, at the opening of the school’s new library.

The well-known children’s writer officially opened the state-of-the-art library, part of the school’s drive to ensure that every pupil can read by the age of 11.

John also talked to pupils about his favourite books and presented the school with a gold Artsmark award.

Jean Calverley, the deputy head teacher, said:, “Our new library is evidence of how much we want to promote reading throughout the school.

“All the children from nursery to Year 6 use it. We employ teacher librarians to run it and have pupil librarians to help with the book borrowing. Our new library is at the heart of children’s learning at Clifton Green School.”
