The sudden uproar over expenses has caused people to call for a General Election – just when we are having the European elections and many areas are having local council elections.

In other words, it won’t be happening. With regard to the expense debacle, this is what happens when year after year people vote for the established parties, not smaller parties or individuals.

Can you imagine the House of Commons made up of people who actually had to spend their own money to get there? Most candidates’ fees are paid by their parties.

Plus, with more “independent” parties the expenses system would be tightened up accordingly, instead of the “rubber stamp” that most expenses get now because of the two-party system.

As a member of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, I know our party is not only the third oldest party in the UK, but also the only one that is debt-free.

If these other bigger parties cannot control their own spending, what chance do they have of handling ours?
