KNAVESMIRE Harriers runner Cameron Brookes started the season in style at the York & District Summer League meeting at Pocklington.

Brookes won in 34min 01sec on a tricky ten kilometre course, finishing in front of Pocklington’s Tom Danby, who clocked 34.14. Mark Metcalf took third in 34.38.

Harriers won the team competition, with Brookes backed up by Phil Elliot-Dick (35.44), Giles Hawkings (35.57), Barry Atkinson (36.69), Will Kaye (36.58) and Kevin Holmes (38.57).

The women’s race was won by Knavesmire’s Emma Yates in 39.26 – and the York club also hold first place in the team competition thanks to Robyn Oldham (41.12), Sarah Nettelton (42.13) and Janet Cordingley (42.30).

There were other good runs in age categories, with Marueen Medlar first in the womens 55 in 51.32 ahead of Margret Metcalf in third (52.37).
