A village near York is getting ready to stage its first beer festival.

The Tockwith Beer Festival, which takes place tomorrow in the village hall, is the brainchild of the village school’s parent and teacher assoociation.

A group of dads have project managed the festival, and have organised everything from sponsorship, live acts, programmes and pies to the all important real ale. Festival goers will be able to sample about 20 Yorkshire ales on the day.

Tthe festival starts at noon and will last until 10pm. Entry costs £5 and will include a festival glass, tasting notes and a free beer token. Food will be available and other drinks will also be available with children welcome under parental supervision.

“We were extremely lucky in receiving a tremendous amount of help and guidance from our main sponsor, Rudgate Brewery, based in Tockwith to ensure we had a fantastic variety of ales,” said a spokesman.

The event will raise funds for the school’s Key Stage 2 playground equipment.
