A YORK attraction is heralding its 25th anniversary with a host of celebrations, including a carnival-style street party.
Visitors are invited to step into the more recent past with the Jorvik Centre when it offers recession-busting 1984 admission prices to celebrate its milestone.
From next month until February 2010, prices will be reduced on the first of each month from £8 to £2 for adults and £7 to £1 for concessions.
The famous Coppergate attraction has seen 15 million visitors since it opened.
The York Archaeological Trust, which looks after Jorvik is also planning a street party in Coppergate as part of a programme of events to celebrate the centre’s success.
Stilt walkers, unicyclists and Viking warriors will be joined by a “pavement poet” telling tales of Viking bravery on May 4, between 11am and 3.30pm.
There will be party games such as Viking musical statues, pin the beard on the Viking and giant pass the parcel.
Children can sign a giant birthday card and everyone will be welcome to a piece of giant birthday cake.
Other events include open air art at the Hungate excavation site in June, when 24 Viking-inspired works made by groups from throughout the city will be displayed.
