YORKSHIRE in Bloom judges have visited York for their first visit to the city in this year’s competition.

The two judges toured the area, making visits to Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe, areas outside the inner road and the historic city centre.

They were also shown a display illustrating the work that has already taken place this year. City of York Council has been working with partners across the city to get York blooming.

The city will be assessed against other communities of over 100,000 across the county and will be judged on horticulture, the environment and the involvement of local businesses and communities. Liz Levett, the city’s Yorkshire in Bloom co-ordinator, said: “The spring judging is the time when we set the scene for the judges to show them what our beautiful city has to offer. We’re very grateful for all the help, enthusiasm and support that we have received, particularly from residents, businesses and local community groups.

“The city is beginning to burst into spring colours and the floral displays throughout the city and on the city walls look fantastic.

The judges will return to York for the final judging in July.
