HOLDERS York Under-11 Schoolboys crashed out of the Green Un Cup after a titanic extra-time struggle against Hull.
York took advantage of the strong wind in the first half, Nick Kennedy scoring from a Joe McCormick cross.
Substitute Josh Nelson then unleashed a thunderous right-footed shot for a 2-0 lead, which was stretched shortly into the second half by McCormick.
The turning point in the game came soon after when a through ball was misjudged by the York ’keeper. Captain Ben Hirst collided with a post as the ball trickled over the line and was forced to leave the field injured.
Hull then scored a free-kick and with five minutes left advanced the tie to extra time with a leveller.
York gained a penalty in extra time, but just as McCormick took it the referee spotted an infringement and awarded a free-kick to the visitors.
Two minutes from the end of the added period, Hull sneaked a winner.
Said coach Ian Hutchinson: “The loss of Ben Hirst and the resulting goal turned the game.
“We have four games remaining to claim the championship, which we have not won since the 2004/5 season.”
