A DATE with destiny is the precious preserve of Huntingon School Under-16s today.

The all-conquering team were pitting their wits against 16 other teams in the National Schools’ netball finals at Peterborough this weekend.

They beat everyone at the regional round in Rotherham in January to be crowned regional champions and to go on to represent Yorkshire & Humberside at the countrywide level in a bid to capture the national championship.

Teacher Sophia Fisher reckoned the team have a great chance of landing the English Schools’ crown.

She said: “The girls’ commitment has been incredible considering it is also their GCSE year. It was just two years ago they came third in the regionals, narrowly missing out on a finals place at U14 level.”

The Huntington School U16s’ squad comprises: Alex McLorg (GA and captain), Gemma Day (GS), Laura Hare (WA), Katie Smith (C), Rebecca Calum (WD), Lauren Hudson (GD), Leah Clayton (GK), Katie Jackson (GK) and Charlotte Tarn (R).
