THE winners of the Ingrams Solicitors Cross Country League have been unveiled by City of York Athletics Club.

The final race was staged on Knavesmire and the overall Under-9s’ boys title went to Alex Botterill, with the girls’ crown going to Stella Cross.

In the U11s section, the boys’ prize went to Ben Lewis, with Rowan Palmour topping the girls’ league.

The U13s boys’ winner was James Proctor, and his feat was matched by Kate Harris for the girls.

Ian Varney was the top U15s boy, while the girls’ table was topped by Charlotte Mason.

The five-race series proved a huge success in its first year, with a host of youngsters from the ages of eight to 16 competing along side adult runners.

The first three runners in each age group received medals at each of the five events.

The overall league winners were decided on results from three or more races, which were held between October and March.

Meanwhile, City of York have issued a reminder that entries are now being taken for the Ingrams Solicitors Summer Track and Field Athletics League.

The new season kicks off on Saturday, May 23 and club officials are hoping to build on the popularity and success of last year’s inaugural campaign.

The league is open to all athletes between the ages of eight and 17, as well as adults, who want to try sprinting, hurdles or longer distance track running.

Athletes will also get the chance to throw the hammer or discus, and attempt the high jump or long jump in the spirit of friendly local competition.

Anyone is welcome to attend as no experience is necessary.

The club offer all entrants the option of two free trial training sessions with City of York at Huntington Stadium.

A spokesman said: “We are a local grassroots club catering for beginner and elite athletes, newcomers and veterans, offering quality coaching in a supportive environment and we have an established disability athletes group.”

Club membership renewals are due this month and cost £35 per year, or £40 for adults and £80 for a family.

The club holds three training sessions a week.
