YORK City fan Jamie Crane is made of the write stuff.

The Haxby teenager is the winner of our Young Sports Writer of the Year award, which is backed by the Minstermen and local employer CPP.

The 14-year-old entered the competition by writing a match report on the club’s Blue Square Premier fixture against Weymouth on February 28.

His report, which is printed left, was judged by The Press sportsdesk to be the pick of some quality entries from budding journalists aged between nine and 14.

The youngster’s prize is a laptop courtesy of CPP and a VIP day at KitKat Crescent. The day will include a tour behind the scenes and a chance to meet the players, a VIP seat in the press box alongside The Press’ York City reporter Dave Flett and the opportunity for Jamie to have his story published in The Press.

Jamie will be attending the club’s league clash with Kidderminster next Saturday, and his match report will appear in the following week’s Park Life.
