Coun Andy D’Agorne, of the Green Party, appears to wish to continue to delude himself, and mislead your readers, in his letter on the Council’s budget debate (Budget row, Letters, March 4).

Despite demonstrating his party’s paucity of ideas by not having any budget proposals of his own during the debate itself (there were no Green Party amendments or motions on the subject whatsoever), he tries to cover up this vacuity by continuing to claim that he somehow should get credit for a claimed, behind-thescenes, private deal with the ruling Lib-Dem administration, that is no more than a figment of his imagination. The irrelevance of the Green group of two councillors (who often vote against each other anyway) was further confirmed when they then abstained on the final vote on the council’s budget for the coming year.

How is Coun D’Agorne going to enforce his so-called deal, and ensure that the imagined, claimed benefits will be delivered, when the Lib-Dem budget proposals collapsed, when they surrendered to the Tory Group, by accepting that group’s amendment? An alternative budget of unspecified staff and service cuts, apparently worked out on the back of a fag packet !

In order to cling on to control of the council, the Lib Dems have become a client administration to the rump Tory group.

Some leadership, Coun Waller!

Coun Sandy Fraser (Labour), Micklegate ward, Millfield Road, York.
