A YORK running group is urging people to get active by joining them in taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) York City Jog this spring.

Members of Jog York are supporting the annual race and are inviting people to join them in getting active and preparing for the fun event. The 5km and 3km jog takes place at 6pm on Tuesday, April 7, and participants can run, walk or crawl around their choice of route on Knavesmire.

York Jog aims to get people active and introduce them to running in a fun, friendly and non-competitive environment with guidance and support to start, progress and achieve goals to get fit and healthy and enjoy the benefits exercise can bring.

Richard Smith, co-ordinator of the running club, said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting the BHF and the York City Jog and are asking the people of York to sign up to the event and join us. I’m encouraging all our runners to take part - set themselves a goal to aim towards and take part in the event in a few weeks time.”

Helen Whiteley, BHF regional events organiser, said: ‘’Getting active is one of the best ways to look after your heart. Small changes in your lifestyle can make a big difference and taking part in a fun event like our York City Jog is a great way to start. It is fantastic that Jog York are taking part and we hope that as many people as possible will join and help us raise funds to enable the BHF to continue its life-saving work.”

The BHF hopes to attract 1,000 people from across the region and raise more than £30,000 for its life-saving work. Entry is £10 in advance (£5 for 16s and under) and £15 on the day for adults. All joggers will receive a free T-shirt and goody bag.
