THE final round of the hotly fought Riverside Financial Services League on the Ouse above York provided a late taste of moving-water action.

Noel Speight was none too confident about his peg 226 draw at Hunter’s Lodge and expected just a few perch, offering chopped worm on the pole. He found perch to the pound mark but it was a brace of 4lb chub that pushed him into first place with 13lb 12oz.

Brian Clay did fancy peg 221 and fished for bream from the off using caster on the groundbait feeder well across. No slabs showed but four chub and a dozen roach for 12lb 3oz saw him into second place, though a lost chub cost him the win. Eddie Bridon took the league title for the second year running and amassed almost two-thirds of the £2,000 fund.

Kevin’s Lake was the pick of the four this week at Langwith and from peg three Darren Watson plied his trade successfully to score a comfortable 72lb 9oz win to beat a big field at the popular York fishery.

Using pellet across to the island, he beat carp to 3lb to hold off Tony Lawson who fished both near and far banks with pellet at Kevin’s peg 14 for 62lb 14oz, also made up of carp to three pounds.

Warmer conditions saw Pond One’s barbel feeding well at Oaktree Leisure and Mel Sykes took full advantage at peg 48 where corm at 14 metres resulted in fish to 4lb supported by small carp as he worked to a 40lb 4oz finish.

At peg 15, Darren Pawlett offered maggot in the margins for barbel with quality perch to come close with 37lb 8oz.

The carp were feeding well on both Cyprio and the Match Lake at Carpvale, where 40 contested the opening round of the Bob-Co Spring Series.

John Fletcher (Ripon) led from peg 37 on the productive match lake where carp to 2lb responded well to a variety of offerings, including paste, meat and corn.

Fishing down the bank to the rushes at ten metres, he finished on 64lb 10oz. His nearest challenger was Steve Mazza (Bob-Co) with 52-5oz from peg 49 on the same lake.
