SPRING has definitely sprung with hosts of golden daffodils fluttering and dancing in the breeze around York.

Tens of thousands of the archetypal spring flowers can be seen at a glance around the city walls and in the city’s gardens, helping to banish memories of a freezing winter and raise hopes of a long, hot summer.

But a spokesman for the Met Office said that although there had been talk that a particularly cold winter precedes a good summer, there was no evidence to support this.

But he did have some good news in that temperatures for Mothering Sunday should be twice the average for the time of year at about 14 degrees Celsius.
