I WAS absolutely appalled and disgusted to watch the demonstration of Muslims in Luton and to read their insulting banners.

I was at the homecoming in York of the UK Medical Group. It was wonderful to see them and to acknowledge their bravery.

The atmosphere was emotional, the applause and cheers must have made them feel that the British people appreciate what they are doing under difficult circumstances. Good luck to them, I say.

Like everything else, I expect that this incident in Luton will be swept under the carpet (don’t give it publicity and hope it will go away). Even the Prime Minister says: “There is a right to freedom of speech!” But would it have had the same reaction if a group of traditional British people had protested in a similar way? I think not.

I sincerely hope that these people will be punished in some way, as an example for their behaviour on our streets, and I hope the proud citizens of the UK will be made aware of the outcome of their punishment, if only to relieve their pent-up frustrations.

I cannot agree with John Heawood’s (The wrong target, the Press, March 12) comment: “It is not surprising that some Muslims living in the UK feel very strongly about what they see as the harm being done to their own countries.”

What about our country? They want the best of both worlds, and chose to live in Britain, so should be prepared to accept British values and standards.

• HOWEVER misguided this Labour government was in following the US into Iraq and Afghanistan, our Armed Forces at the sharp end should not have to endure the disgusting and insulting abuse from a bunch of fanatical Muslims waving banners with trash such as “baby killers” scrawled across them.

No matter how this Government likes to describe Britain, multicultural or whatever, Britain is a Christian country. Therefore, if these fanatical Muslim troublemakers feel so strong about British soldiers fighting Muslims, and, as is the case in Afghanistan, Muslims trying to flood the west with opium, they should clear off and join their like.

The Labour Government needs to seriously think about bringing in legislation to stop this sort of hatemongering and abuse against our forces, which is no less than treason.

Where would we have been if the Catholics in Britain and serving in the Armed Forces had carried on like these idiots while the problems of Northern Ireland were going on? Complete anarchy, I think.

It’s time to stop pandering to the PC brigade and questions need to be asked in high places as to whether people like these who abuse our freedoms, fought for by our armed forces over generations, have a future in Britain.
