CALLS have been made for an investigation into the cause of repeated power cuts in south-west York.

Residents in Dringhouses and Woodthorpe have been plunged into darkness three times in as many weeks, most recently on Wednesday evening, when 6,300 properties were hit.

Local councillor Tom Holvey has written to YEDL, the company responsible for maintaining the electricity networks in Yorkshire, asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the problem.

He said: “The frequency of the power cuts in this area suggests that there is a serious underlying problem with the supply network. I hope that by meeting with YEDL I can highlight the seriousness of this issue and that we can work together to get the problem resolved as soon as possible.”
