I refer to The Press’s Comment column of February 24 (Sort out this pool problem), when it said: “Surely someone, somewhere, must have had an inkling of the funding shortfall before now?”

At the public inquiry into the university expansion, neither QC, for the university or City of York Council, could say where the money for a pool was coming from, where it would be sited, or when it would be built.

When asked if a swimming pool had been included to make the expansion seem more palatable, neither would answer.

Many of us knew then that it was unlikely to happen.

This information was shared with your readers in October 2007 (Short-changed over swimming?, Letters, October 30, 2007) and February 2008 (Pool puzzles, Letters, February 13, 2008).
