THE Press’s article “Always play safe with CORGI” (February 19) quite correctly advised that consumers should use only registered gas engineers for gas work.

But your readers also need to know that from April 1 the CORGI registration scheme will be replaced by the Gas Safe Register. Consumers should continue to check an engineer’s identity by inspecting their identification card, which will contain the licence number, a picture of the engineer and the new Gas Safe Register logo. The Health and Safety Executive has developed this new scheme because people said they wanted change. The Gas Safe Register will have an increased focus on gas safety, strict standards for performance, reduced bureaucracy and lower registration fees for gas engineers. It will deliver real benefits for consumers and gas engineers alike. Please visit www.gassaferegister.co.uk for more details.
