THE York Schoolboys Under-13s footballers returned to action with a bang against Spen Valley.

The York youngsters were 2-0 winners – and even that scoreline failed to reflect their dominance.

Jordan Outerbridge and Tom Hawksby were a threat down the flanks and were soon providing chances for York’s forwards. James Hudson nearly opened the scoring, but his shot was well saved, and York went close again before they finally scored.

A quick break down the right and a low cross found Hawksby on the edge of the box and he drove his shot into the bottom corner. York continued to create chances, but the Spen ’keeper kept them at bay.

York ’keeper Josh Archer was a virtual spectator as the back four stifled Spen Valley. Hudson, Hawksby and Harvey Rowson-Jeffrey all went close before York finally doubled their lead late on through Rowson-Jeffrey.
