RECORDS tumbled in the New Earswick Swimming Club Championships.

More than 120 swimmers took part in the four-night gala, with the senior performance boys breaking all four of the existing 100 metres records.

On the opening night Tom Eaton broke the open boys’ backstroke record, set by Tony Shaw in 2003, with a new time of 1 minute 01.18 seconds.

The following night, the open boys’ breaststroke record set by Shaw in 2002 fell to Liam Killen in 1.09.80.

Eaton continued his fine form on the third day, breaking the open boys’ freestyle record of Ian Smithson, set last year, in a time of 54.76.

The closing evening saw the open boys’ butterfly record, also set last year by Smithson, lowered by Jonathan Woodford to 1.02.79.

The record-breakers provided the pinnacle of several improved performances which have followed the restructuring of the squads and swim sessions.

With a comprehensive schedule of league fixtures looming, club coaches are looking forward to another successful year.

The winners in the nine years and under boys’ age group were Zak Moorcroft (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Ben Schofield (breaststroke).
