YORK powerhouse athlete Richard Buck will be hoping to put his rivals in a cloud of Turin dust after his latest international call-up was confirmed.

The City of York Athletics Club one-lap specialist has been included in the British team to compete in the European Indoor Championships in the northern Italian city of Turin from March 6 to 8.

Buck has bagged one of two spots for Britain in the event, the other place going to Nick Leavy. The York star is also in the 400m relay.

The 22-year-old has been in storming form throughout the indoor athletics season since the start of the year.

Just last week he crowned that upswing with a new indoor personal best when he clocked 46.22 seconds after finishing second in the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham.

He was in the lead at the break at the race’s mid-point but was eventually pipped to the line by the world indoor champion, Canada’s Tyler Christopher, in an event screened by the BBC.

Behind Buck was the notable scalp of Sweden’s highly-rated 400m runner Johan Wissman.
