YORK Schoolboys Under-12s returned from a long lay-off with a battling 2-1 victory over Nottingham at Poppleton.
The home side fell behind after four minutes when impressive stand-in goalkeeper James Ash was beaten from the edge of the box after the defence failed to clear the ball.
The goal stung York into action and they dominated the remainder of the first half, with the central midfield trio of Joe Sykes, Tom Gore and man of the match Callum Hurst playing some fine passing football.
Rowan Capper levelled the score from just inside the area after a fine through ball from Hurst.
The hosts went 2-1 up early in the second half with a cool finish from Capper after intelligent play from substitute Kieran Smith and forward Adam Swords.
Nottingham dominated the last 20 minutes of the game, but York’s defence was resilient with Harry Lynn, Joe Ferguson, Steven Arnold, Henry Swires and Jacob Rose chasing and harassing the opposition.
