MAYBE it’s my age, but I was expecting this to be another dirge of depressing misery by a trio of 20-something London boys.
As easy mistake, with the first two songs being entitled Death and To Lose My Life. But how wrong can you be. I love the title track. Getting a lot of radio airplay at the moment with its eighties electro-pop chorus, it is being compared to Duran Duran and Depeche Mode. Don’t be fooled by the 80s influence, as it really is only this track and Farewell To The Fairground that have it in abundance.
White Lies may be a young rock band, with a sound not unlike The Editors, but this album is upbeat, with a sing-a-along quality. White Lies are tipped for big things this year, so expect to hear them at festivals throughout the summer.
