THE PRESS informs us that the Green Party is now proposing the Barbican should be run by a trust.

This is welcome news to the Save Our Barbican (SOB) group, which has been campaigning hard for such a move for three years.

Less welcome are the opinions contained in the letters from Paul Brown and Richard Cordock (Readers’ Letters, January 18) – letters are so astonishingly similar they might have been written by the same hand.

Both writers misrepresent the Barbican story. For example, what evidence has Mr Cordock for repeating the old Lib-Dem myth that SOB delayed the development for three years?

The rest is so off the mark that it is not worthy of comment. Suffice to say, if any reader wants to know the Barbican truth then visit Saveourbarbicanyork.org.uk This information has been public for almost three years now and its truthfulness remains unchallenged.

Have any readers noticed that letters supporting plans such as that proposed for the Barbican invariably come from writers who live miles away from the development sites?

They are all from Earswick, Strensall, Copmanthorpe and Heworth without.

Well folks, if you are so keen on developments of two budget hotels, a casino, a 6,000 person drinking den, and five floors of matchbox buy-to-let flats, on a small site, 25 yards from your front door why don’t you write letters requesting them for your village?

But if you are not so keen then it is hypocrisy to criticise citizens for exercising their civil rights to protect their homes and way of life.

As to personal attacks on myself, I am not ashamed of what I have done and, let’s face it, bad losers can appear silly.

Sticks and stones lads, sticks and stones.
