The Bar Convent is an elegant Georgian building located close to the railway station just outside Micklegate Bar and within easy walking distance of the city centre.
It houses a beautiful neo-classical chapel built in 1769 and designed by Thomas Atkinson and other facilities open to the public include a cafe, Guest House and meeting rooms
The Bar Convent Museum outlines the story of Mary Ward, foundress of the Congregation of Jesus, and also the story of the Bar Convent School 1686 -1985.
