I want to be clear about my views over the proposed parking restrictions along Holly Bank Road and Collingwood Avenue.

The current proposals are for no parking along the railway side of Holly Bank Road from 7am to 7pm and no waiting at any time on each side of the junctions along the Holly Bank Road, Collingwood Avenue route.

Such a proposal will decrease the amount of parking for residents in the area, and no doubt increase parking in the small groves on the railway side of Holly Bank and along Clive Grove.

This will lead to access issues to and from the side groves. This measure will no doubt increase the speed of traffic along Holly Bank, making it less safe to cross the road for children and the elderly, and will not guarantee the return of the Number 16 bus along the old route.

First has invested in a new bus stop along Hamilton Drive. This was put at this location as I asked for it to be as close to elderly people in Holly Bank as possible.

However, some residents did not want the stop to be outside their homes and so this was the closest it could be.

If the traffic restrictions are introduced there will be more parking next to the postbox, traditionally used as a bus stop by elderly people.

Therefore if the bus was returned to its previous route, elderly people would have to hail the bus from the middle of the road. I think this is unsafe and unacceptable.

A decision will be made over the current proposals at a City of York Council meeting on December 8. I would invite all interested parties to contact the council and register to speak at this meeting. I oppose the current proposals and I am in favour of the bus being reinstated.
