ONE lucky York City fan will win the chance to travel with the team for Boxing Day’s trip to Burton Albion as the club’s mascot for the day.

All children who attend the Football in the Community team’s Christmas Fun Day on Monday, December 22 will be eligible for the prize, which will be determined by a skills challenge competition.

The fun day is open to boys and girls between the ages of five and 12, and children of all abilities will have the opportunity to win due to a special points system.

It will run from 10am to 3pm and costs £25 or £20 for Junior Reds members, with the day including indoor football coaching, a tournament on the KitKat Crescent pitch, a ground tour, a question-and-answer session with City players and games, quizzes and fun in the club’s family room.

Every youngster will also receive a free match ticket and goody bag.

Places, however, are limited to 50 and can be reserved by emailing community@ycfc.net or phoning 01904 624447, extension 7.

Community development officer Danial Parker said: “This is a unique prize and our Christmas Fun Day will also be a great way for children to kick off the holidays as well as giving mum and dad time to do some last-minute shopping.”

The community team are also about to start their latest development centres at York College and PlayFootball in Clifton Moor.

Both are aimed at spotting possible York City Centre of Excellence and York City Ladies talent and will take place on Saturday mornings from November 8 to December 13.

The York College course will run from 9.30am to 11am and costs £24 for the full six-week course or £4.50 per session. Prices at PlayFootball will be £16 (full course) or £3 (per session) for a 10am to 11am course.
