UNBEATEN York Schoolboys Under-12s were 5-1 winners in a league fixture at South Nottinghamshire.

York took the lead after four minutes when Jacob Rose played in Adam Swords who finished neatly with a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper.

South Notts levelled on eight minutes after confusion from a corner in the York box.

Rowan Capper soon restored York’s lead when his stinging shot from the edge of the area could only be pushed into the top corner by the South Notts ’keeper.

York continued to press and that paid off in the 22nd minute when winger Harvey Rowson-Jeffery ended the best passing move of the game by setting up Joe Sykes, who curled in brilliantly from 15 yards.

Soon after half-time the lead was increased when a defensive error gifted the ball to Callum Hurst, who caught the ’keeper off his line from 25 yards.

Hurst then turned provider with a pass to man of the match Capper, who rounded off an emphatic victory with a cool finish.

York remained strong in defence, with great performances from Harry Lynn, Nigel Holland, Steve Arnold and Henry Swires, and they were dominant going forward.

York manager Paul Hurst said: “Some of the passing and movement was excellent, combined with great work rate and determination.

“There is still a lot to come from this team as they are only just starting to settle into their passing game.

“You can see the confidence growing in the boys and every one of them did themselves proud.”
