THE list of things he does for his community is endless - and now this popular estate worker has been nominated for an award.

Guy Fowler has been put forward by his colleagues for the Person Of The Year title in the York Community Pride Awards, run by The Press, in conjunction with City of York Council.

Guy, of Holgate, York, has been the Clifton Estate worker for more than two years and his colleagues say that he serves his job with complete commitment and dedication, going above and beyond his job description to help others.

Hazel Whur, who has worked with Guy for two years, said: "Working with Guy is a pleasure.

"He has a pride in his work and the estate and if he sees that somebody needs help he will try and offer his services.

"I have had so many residents of the Clifton area comment on Guy's dedication to the estate and his pride in ensuring that it is a clean and safe place to work and live.

"I hope that his nomination is given serious consideration."

Mike Crossman, who works with Guy, said: "Guy goes out of his way to make sure tenants are helped in any way he can. He is always positive and happy when carrying out his work and in my opinion he is a credit to the council.

"If more people were like him then the standing of the council would be much enhanced."

Colleague Paula Hardy added: "Guy is so pleasant, kind and helpful and takes care of our area with pride. I hope he wins."

This is the second nomination Guy has received in the York Community Pride Awards 2008.

Guy has already been nominated in the Public Sector Hero category by resident Helen Douglas, in Clifton, York, who feels that that Guy provides herself and her neighbours with a first-class service.

She said: "Guy goes above and beyond his job description to keep the environment clean and tidy and provides a first class public service to the estate."

Helen says Guy is known by every resident in Clifton Estate on a first names basis and has a rapport with people of all ages.

"He has gained the respect of everyone," she said. "What is typical of Guy is that he is always willing to help those in need. Whatever the problem or need, he will fix it.

"He is invaluable to the area."
