SELBY councillors have overwhelmingly rejected plans for an eco-town - despite the lure of a £100m sweetener.
At a meeting of Selby District Council last night all but one of the 28 councillors in attendance voted against the proposal for a 5,000 home development at Gascoigne Wood, near Selby.
Councillors voted against the plan despite being told up to £100 million could be granted by the Government to invest in Selby if the eco-town plan was ultimately approved.
Selby District Council leader Mark Crane, pictured, said he would "never" be in support of an eco town in Selby.
He said: "It is funny that on the day of the meeting we receive a letter suggesting that millions is available to put into the city and I don't believe that these promises will be carried through."
