HUNDREDS of music fans rocked in the pews last night as York Minster was transformed into a gig venue.

Guitars, keyboards and drums replaced the holy sounds of choral music, as The Yards performed in aid of The Press's Guardian Angels Appeal and The Minster's own £30 million development campaign.

It is thought to be only the second time in history the cathedral has hosted a rock concert.

Meanwhile, The Busy Farmers Farm Shop at Sutton-on-the-Forest, near York, is throwing an open farm fun day this Sunday to boost our Guardian Angels Appeal.

Activities include a treasure hunt and scarecrow competition and there will also be farm animals, a working bee hive and machinery on display.

Entry is free, with 50 pence from all barbeque sales going to our appeal, which aims to raise £300,000 for life-saving high-dependency facilities for children at York Hospital.

At Roko health club in Clifton Moor, York, a £1 donation will be given to our appeal from every new member who signs up today, Saturday or Sunday.

Aloe Vera products will also be on sale from the club, with 20 per cent of sales going to the appeal.
