A DRINKER has been banned from his local pub and must pay £100 to its landlady after he spat in her face.

Adam Michael Flanagan was angry that Maria Walton had barred his friend from the Corner House, said prosecutor Angela Smith.

On April 30 he went to the Burtonstone Lane pub to complain about her decision. She barred him and he responded by spitting in her face.

York magistrates responded by making a court order banning Flanagan from the pub for 12 months.

They also ordered him to do 150 hours' unpaid work, bound him over to keep the peace towards her for 12 months in the sum of £250 and pay Ms Walton £100 compensation and £35 costs.

Flanagan, of Tennyson Avenue, off Burtonstone Lane, York, pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Walton.

Mrs Smith said Flanagan used to be a customer at the Corner House and Ms Walton had recently taken over as landlady.

"On April 26, the landlady barred one of his friends for unacceptable behaviour," said Mrs Smith.

"This gentleman (Flanagan) took exception to that.

"On April 30, he went in to remonstrate with her. She then barred him." Magistrates stood the case down while a probation officer prepared a quick report on whether Flanagan was suitable to do unpaid work.

Flanagan's solicitor, Jane Maloney, did not give any mitigation after the probation officer reported that he could do the punishment.
