The continual rise in the cost of fuel will, very likely, have a detrimental effect on the tourist industry, which is a vital part of the local economy.
There are several tourist attractions, such as the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, the Farming Museum at Murton and Eden Camp near Malton, which are only accessible by car.
A survey conducted by the Yorkshire Air Museum some years ago showed that at least half the visitors came some distance to get to the museum.
If people now start to take the diabolical cost of fuel into consideration, the numbers of visitors will start to decline, with the inevitable effect on the local economy.
