RECYCLE Week 2008 starts on Monday and to mark the occasion City of York Council is launching a new A-Z guide to recycling.

The A5 booklet will be available from council reception points and on www.york.gov.uk

Elizabeth Wray, waste service project officer for the council, said: "We wanted to produce a comprehensive guide highlighting the entire range of recycling facilities in York.

"It will help to ensure that residents are clear about exactly what can be recycled as there is often uncertainty about certain items, particularly those that people dispose of less often. What better time to launch the guide than Recycle Week?"

Recycle Week is an annual event and is now in its fifth year.

This year's theme is "just one more thing", with people encouraged to think of one more thing they can recycle.

Meanwhile, York's recycling rates have increased to 43 per cent, beating the 40 per cent target set for 2008/09.

Coun Ann Reid, executive member for neighbourhood services, said: "I would like to thank residents for ensuring that we have increased recycling to 43 per cent when five years ago it was only 12 per cent."
