RECENTLY I had the pleasure of joining my daughter and her ten-year-old classmates on their school trip. As part of their Food And Farming topic work we visited Intake Farm, which is a working farm in Ulleskelf, near Tadcaster.
I came away from the visit full of admiration for the farmer and his family, not only for their hard work and dedication, but also for their commitment to the environment, the well-being of their animals and the community in which they live.
The visit was very informative and enlightening - we came away knowing things like the importance of spraying crops at 5am before the sun is too high to evaporate the liquid. We all had a lovely day and enjoyed the homemade cakes very kindly made by the farmer's wife.
I tried to support British farmers before, but now, following my visit, I will try even harder to buy local British produce.
