To what appears to be the minority who disagreed with my letter in The Press on May 9, I would just like to point out that the junction I was referring to, just like many others, was planned and built before we have the amount of traffic we do now.

Therefore yes, this is a pointless risk to take, and can be avoided by just using common sense. It is often quicker, safer and more "green" to take an alternative route, which means you aren't sitting at this and similar places with your engine ticking over.

Fortunately, most of us learn from mistakes we make or see others make, especially those that result in the death or maiming of innocents.

Maybe instead of seeing my letter as an insult, my critics should look at the logic behind it and act on it, rather than having a kneejerk reaction and possibly adding to the rising death toll on our roads.

I, like many, would struggle to live with myself if an unnecessary action I had taken, caused the death of another.
