THE case of Don Tyson (Yorkcard clears up trouble in paradise, The Press, May 23), reminds me of an incident that happened to my wife two years ago.

My wife, myself and two friends were in Chicago Airport en route to Toronto. We had gone through check-in and all the security checks and had 45 minutes before boarding our plane. My wife decided to go to the ladies before boarding.

Twenty minutes later she had not appeared and time was getting short, so our friends went to the boarding gate to tell them we were there and would be with them soon. With 15 minutes to go my wife appeared from a different direction from which she went. She looked harassed and upset, we ran for the plane and it was some hours later when she was able to tell what had happened.

On leaving the ladies she came out of a different door from which she went in and ended up outside the airport, on trying to get in she realised that she had no documentation. I had the passports and boarding tickets, but like most women she had her handbag with her.

Inside were her credit cards, Marks & Spencer card and others, but none of these had her photograph on so they were no good.

The only card she had with a photograph was her York bus pass. On producing this at the ticket desk and explaining the situation she was allowed through.

This goes to show that you can't board a bus in Chicago with a York bus pass but you can board a plane.
