A LIMITED edition DVD being sold in aid of The Press's Guardian Angels Appeal is running out fast.

It features recorded highlights of a sell-out gig starring three up-and-coming York artists.

The concert at Basement Bar, in City Screen, York, raised more than £500 for the appeal, but organiser Ruby Paul hopes to double that amount with proceeds from the DVD.

The singer-songwriter from Acomb is a dedicated supporter of our appeal, which aims to raise funds for a new life-saving high-dependency unit for children at York Hospital.

She said: "As a mum, I know that the life of your children is the most precious thing.

"This new unit will be a safety guard, so that if something does go wrong with your child, you know you've got the very best facilities on your doorstep."

More than 100 people flocked to see Ruby perform at the charity gig last month.

One of the highlights of the evening was her moving first public performance of a song called Guardian Angel, which she composed especially for the evening.

The mother-of-two, whose York gig followed a string of performances in Birmingham, Stratford-upon-Avon and London, was joined by 16-year-old Natasha Merritt and 17-year-old Bethan Ratcliffe.

Ruby had previously auditioned seven girls in a competition to find supporting acts for the concert.

The DVD is available online at www.rubypaul.com, or from Acomb Music, in Front Street, York, Borders, in Davygate, York, and Banks Music, in Lendal, York.

Copies cost £10 from the shops, or £11.50 (including postage and packaging) online.

As already reported in The Press, we are now only £40,000 off the appeal's £300,000 target.
