A TEENAGE girl has been killed in a car crash after the vehicle she was in left the road, ploughed through a fence and ended up in a North Yorkshire field.

The girl, who has not been named, was in a red Renault Clio heading in the direction of Scarborough on the B1249 Driffield to Scarborough road, at Staxton Hill, when it left the road shortly before noon yesterday.

A 17-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Clio sustained serious injuries and was taken to Scarborough Hospital, while the 18-year-old male driver of the car and another 18-year-old man who was in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police closed the road for five hours while crash investigators examined the scene. Local diversions were in place.

An 18-year-old man has since been arrested.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the accident or anyone who saw the Clio before the crash.

Witnesses should phone TC Gareth Gilleard, of Scarborough road policing unit, on 0845 6060247.
