A sex offender has convinced a judge he should be allowed to walk the streets - despite repeatedly failing to keep in touch with police Steven Kevin Scrivener, 26, is on the sex offenders' register for life after he raped a 14-year-old when he was a teenager, and must tell the authorities every time he changes address.
But he has three times failed to do so.
In May, Judge Jim Spencer QC gave him six months to prove that he could stay in touch with police and undergo sex offender treatment.
When he returned to court, Scrivener, who admitted breaching the sex offender registration requirements in March, was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, on condition that he does two years' supervision and undergoes a sex offender treatment programme.
He has lived at various addresses in York including Tudor Road, and Highmoor Road, Dringhouses.
He had admitted breaching the registration requirements on two other occasions in earlier cases.
